Having had the good fortune to grow up up in the DC area I've had the opportunity to watch the Nation's Capital fireworks from a number of different perspectives.
As a child my father used to park the car on the side of the road just outside of town with a great view of the Washington Monument. In my late 20's and early 30's I joined the masses on the Mall to listen to the Beach Boys and enjoy a picnic. When my children were small we found a special perch at the Lee-Jackson House in Arlington. Last year I had my first chance to watch the fireworks from a boat in the Potomac River. This year is still up for grabs but I'm angling for a roof top in Georgetown.
No matter where I am though I stop and say THANK YOU to all of the men and women who have made the 4th of July possible. Without their sacrifice I wouldn't be able to enjoy a day filled with family and friends or an evening filled with awesome fireworks. I hope as you prepare to enjoy yourself on Independence Day that you might take a moment to do the same.
