
Schools Out and it's time for Vacation!!
The New Hampshire Legislature is out of Session for the Summer. It's time for a Progress Review.
This week the Concord Monitor, our local paper, came out with an interesting overview of the years sucesses, failures and possible future dealings. I thought it made for some interesting and informative reading!
In the Yay Column
1-
Cigarette smoking continues to not only be a source for additional State Income but
has been Banned from Bars and Restaurants.
2- There was a Ban put on Burning Construction Debris
3- There was a reversal on Parental Notification and Parents no longermust be notified before a Minor has an Abortion
4-New Hampshire became the fourth State to honor Civil Unions
5- Students may not "drop out" of school before age 18
6- Lawmakers required Oil Companys to offer Security to Pre-buy Customers

7- Lawmakers voted for an Increase of $2.10 in the Minimum Wage
8- A Resolution on the Iraq War was passed. It called for American Troops to be Withdrawn. Several Republican Legislators walked out in protest!
In the Nay Column
1-New Hampshire will continue to be the only state without a Mandatory Adult Seat-belt Law 2-Children will Not be required to wear Seatbelts 3-There will be No Ban on Greyhound Racing 4-There will be no Boating Speed Limits 5-There was No Repeal of the Death Penalty 6-there will not be Stricter Oversight on Contractors 7-There will not be a Fine for releasing Helium Balloons
8- Again
they could not agree on a Constitutional Amendment on
Educational Funding!
New Income Sources!
1- Smokers per pack tax will go from .28 to $1.08 (Ouch)
2-Registering a Car or Truck will cost another $6.00
3-Registering documents at The Registry of Deeds will cost an additional $25 (LCHIP)
4-Wild Turkey hunting permits will be an additional $10

Considering the large change in the legislature this year with the House Sweeping Elections , it looks like they had some Notable Accomplishments ! Lets hope that after some R&R they keep it up !
