I haven't had too many weekends without 'plans' like weddings, parties, obligations, etc.....but this past Saturday was different. NOTHING SCHEDULED !!!!
It started with wifey asking .....whatcha wanna do? As typical, I don't answer as my brain is processing info and possibilities....
We hopped in the car and headed East, into NJ....
First stop.... The Ship Inn...Milford, NJ...(yeah, stinkin' British...but hey, we Irish can stand up to it)...actually a really quaint town, and this is a joy.
"NJ's First Brewpub
On January 3rd 1995, The Ship was proud to become the first in New Jersey to brew beer for consumption on premise since the days of Prohibition. Each week we brew fine hand crafted ales in 7 barrel batches using freshly milled whole grain. Our unfiltered beers are made in a Peter Austin system complete with handmade brick, copper and open fermenters in the old English tradition"

Next stop...... Frenchtown, NJ....YES, it's bad enough I visit a stinkin' Brit Pub.....but now I go and visit a really sweet FRENCH village on the Delaware.... stinkin' French.....:^0
Welcome to Frenchtown...Bienvenue!
Frenchtown, NJ has somehow managed to maintain its integrity throughout its history. In this village utopia, nestled on the banks of the Delaware River, people know their neighbors and greet each other in the streets. After all, how can you hide in a hamlet that covers just over one square mile?
One hundred years ago, the population of the borough of Frenchtown was approximately 1,545 people. Today, Frenchtown has nearly the same number of inhabitants. Locals tell us that Frenchtown is what New Hope used to be 10 years ago. Businesses are expanding and new shops are opening up for the first time in years. People are finally rediscovering Frenchtown and all that it has to offer from biking to shopping.
The Frenchtown Inn rocks.....

This is where wifey and I buy a bottle of wine made in Peru,,,and toss it in the cooler...
Now we have our wine....time to find our fresh bread and cheese...
We drive about a half hour heading North and then start west as there MUST be a town before we hit the river.
We pass a 'big' ITALIAN DELI' WOOHOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forget the NAME !!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!
They let us taste 3 different cheeses and had really really fresh loaves of bread..... PERFECT. In addition, we bought a couple peppers stuffed with brasutta (how do you spell that word?) and provolone.
Now it's time to head for a quiet spot by the river......
Voila!!! A small park off of 611 on the PA side of the river.....we climb down to the river, blanket (and cooler) in hand....and spend 2 hours in total romantic talk, touch and non verbal glances as the water flows slowly by and a few butterflies surround us.
Methinks we are in love.
[ Last stop - Braveheart Pub, new place in Hellertown PA. The staff wears kilts....had Belhaven on draught....perfect day..... stinkin' Scots and all]
Long live the Irish, Rob. ;o)
