Rather - "Wasn't I handsome?"
Time to take a dose of my own medicine. My profile photo is at least ten years old and while I have definitely aged well, I don't look like that guy anymore. It is a very common occurrence that I have to (gently) point out to my customers "this photo is a little out of date" and I have to ask "do you really want to use this one?"
Mmmm - how 'bout that humble pie!
I can't really encourage agents to use current photos when I don't set the proper example myself. In my early days as a REALTOR, a wise mentor taught me "Your photo is YOUR logo and your company logo is YOUR legitimacy!" So if your photo doesn't mirror your face, you have misrepresented yourself to your potential clients. Granted that this can be overcome, but there are already enough obstacles that you will face and having to defend your credibility is never a good thing.
Just before Thanksgiving last year we went to the photography shop at Sears (of all places) for a family portrait. They did a very professional job for us, the turn around time was quick and the price was very reasonable. And get this ... they provided digital photos on a CD as part of the package! So I know from recent experience that it isn't that inconvenient or expensive.
After maintaining lead generating websites for several years, I have noticed that agents without photos or with obviously outdated photos receive far fewer web inquiries. This is one of the "fundamental" things about which I often rant.
So how old is your photo?
Great post Larry! It is amazing how many business cards I am sent of other professionals and then later meeting them, I wonder..."did you EVER look like that?" Image is so important in our business, I always suggest to my fellow agents to spend the extra time and money and update your cards, website, etc...
