Apparently, I'm against Oregon 66 and 67.

The problem with this is that I am FOR these taxes. I'm not afraid to pay my fair share, and fully believe that others should pay their fair share also. These two bills are not "job killers". Raising the minimum corporate tax on companies who have sales of less than $500,000 from $10 (yes, $10. All corporations in Oregon have a minumum tax of $10.) to $150 is not going to bankrupt these poor businesses. If you have sales of $500,000, and can't pay $150 in taxes to the state, you're not a legal business.

There are so many corporate loopholes and cooking the books that goes on to make corporations "lose" money, and make it so they pay nothing in taxes, well... not nothing. They have to pay that $10 minimum. Seriously, $10?! If a company has sales of $10,000,000, how much are they required to pay? Yup. You got it right. $10.

These two bills only make changes to the rich and the corporations. Most people aren't going to even notice any change to what they're paying.

From that website: "more than 72% of the 31,000 Oregonians who will claim taxable income of $125,000 or more are owners of small and family owned businesses". So about 22,000 people are going to be taxed an additional $140 each. Job killing... really?

Read something worthwhile and vote YES!

There's so much spin coming from the NO campaign my ass is getting sore!

I'm pretty much with you Shawn. The only problem I have with the tax is that it is a percentage of sales and not profits.

I actually agree on the tax on the Sales portion. If you know anything about corporations, there are many ways they can actually reduce their profits and hide money. This is why they do not pay so much in taxes. It's called "creative accounting" and using the loopholes in the tax law to get away from paying their fair share. Small businesses aren't going to pay a whole lot extra and they won't be bankrupted from this small increase. I'm sure the reason why they did it according to sales was for just that reason that Corporations who have large revenue from sales can't downplay their profits to avoid paying.

I would like to briefly comment on these bills. First, the $10 is the cost to register, and the way it has been used to polarize people is an absolute lie. All businesses in Oregon pay their fare share or use charities to gain tax exemptions, just like everyone else. We all pay. I am a VERY small business owner myself, and I can barely earn a living off of my meager business. This bill won't necessary effect me as I don't make that much, but those with much higher overhead who DO make over $250,000 a year are going to be in a lot of pain.

Second, I want to point out the fallacy in how they budgeted this bill. To me it would make sense that the Oregon legislation would budget important services like school, emergency services and the like FIRST. Apparently in Oregon, they do it LAST. These legislators are not stupid, they know if they want their bill passed they have to leverage our kids. Had they have budgeted properly, perhaps they would have spent a little less money on some of their frivelous committees and bike paths.... but they don't put those on the bill because they KNOW it will not pass. Sadly our kids won't see the benefits of these budget increases. Most of the taxes will go to things like pensions and secondary staffing.

In finality, I think you must all consider WHY you want to vote YES on this bill. You are being used, and they are playing the "it is for the kids!" card. Tell your state that enough is enough. While everyone in our economy is having to live with what they have, our government continues to expand. When are THEY responsible? When have our taxed dollars helped?

Say no on 66 and 67. Put your foot down.
