WHAT CREATIVE UPSTAGING CAN ACCOMPLISH - room 3 - a room that needs to make a strong impression

Home Stager with UPSTAGING YOUR HOMES

Home stagers know a kitchen in a house for sale is one of the rooms which must impress potential buyers.

When I walked into this kitchen, I knew it needed more than just staging to be the kitchen that buyers could imagine themselves cooking and eating in.

kitchen counters: the dated orange laminate was not going to impress - an important counter space was only crotch height.  The homeowners told me it was that way when they bought and they just left it that way.  The height worked for the kids as a counter to eat at;however it broke the flow of counter space for food prep for anyone taller than 4'.

The staging of the kitchen needed to begin with the renovation of the counters; new reasonably priced counter tops and a new counter which would expand the available counter space.

We then needed to address the waste of important real estate - a guinea pig cage and an office set up where an eating area would increase the appeal of the large kitchen area.

THANKS ALLEGRA.   CHECK OUT ROOMS 1 & 2.

THIS PROJECT IS ON THE MARKET NOW AND GETTING LOTS OF INTEREST.  NOT THE BEST TIME FOR SELLING A HOME, BUT HOPEFULLY IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE THEY GET THE RIGHT OFFER.

They would have had a much more difficult time selling that kitchen with those counters.  Nice job!

Hi Sharon,

No kidding!  What blew me away, was the waste of valuable real estate taken up by guinea pig cage!!  When I asked why no table and chairs in the kitchen, they said they ate in the DR.   Fair enough; however most potential buyers want a large kitchen where family & friends can gather.  In this case, it made so much sense because of the beautiful large deck in back.

We had to get rid of the guinea pig cage anyway as it would have been a real turnoff for potential buyers.  Moving the armoire into the boy's room, which we re-did into a home office, took care of that and removed the other home office from the living room.

This is a great example of how people get used to living in a certain way for their lifestyle or their convenience and miss the fact that potential buyers really need to see the house in a more generic and traditional way.

The kitchen countertops look so much better! Very glad that you convinced the homeowners to remove the guinea pig cage, also!

Hi Suzanne,

Yes, I was quite pleased with the outcome - so much more practical.

I actually got a bit attached to those little guys; however they had to go and are now in the detached studio in the back of the house until they move.

Thank you for your comments.
