"Smile, you're on surveillance camera" is the brand new sign at the end of a brand new gravel driveway for an area elderly couple who has been plagued by burglary recently.
Some 75 Community volunteers turned out at the elderly couple's home this past weekend to help clean up and install security protection throughout the property.
Mason County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Trout and his partner Trevor Clark spearheaded the activity along with volunteers from Fire District 2, the North Mason Chamber of Commerce, the Washington State Patrol, and Local Boy Scouts, area Church groups, service club and others.
This is a wonderful example of a Community's determination to the right thing by lending a hand and helping those in need. Deputy Trout said "We're showing the bad guys that we're not going to tolerate what they do and we're showing the community that we can come together in community spirit".
The couple's home is in a rural lake area and the property had a lot of overgrowth and their house just did not looked lived in. According to Deputy Trout, bad guys look for homes that are not lived in, i.e. vacation homes.
Firefighter Jeromy Hicks helped organize the weekend cleanup. In addition to all the splendid volunteers that came out to help, donations of items from local businesses included lumber, food, grave and much needed labor.
The moss covered roof was cleaned and fixed, an unsafe deck was repaired, a fence and gate fixed along with a brand new mail box. Electrician Gary Phillip of Phillips and Son Electric did the wiring for new motion detector lights and installed the brand new "Smile, you're on surveillance camera".
Thank you Mason County Sheriffs, Fire District 2 and all the Volunteers, what a terrific Christmas time happening.
