What a great forum to ask this question -- one that burns in the minds of all of the mortgage people on ActiveRain.

I have found that to form a genuine relationship with a real estate agent takes time -- years, sometimes.  I've formed new relationships with listing agents at the closing table (still hard for me to believe that some lenders don't show up at their closings! what on earth could that be about?)

I've created financing scenario fliers for agents to put in their listings -- I use periodic US mail and email pieces to stay in touch --

but let's hear it, Realtors -- what can a good lender do to make an impression on you?

Jordan,

Offer to help market there properties by putting a sign out there to tell people to call you to get pre approved.  I have a couple of good mortgage officers that I work with.  They have given me referrals and when I need some information from them they get back to me right away.  They also send me mailings and stop in the office every now and then.  Good Luck on building your network of Realtors!

Offer them financing scenarios that no one is doing.  It makes for a great marketing tool.  Example:  Six months PITI included in sale...imagine a buyer not having to make a payment for 6 months!

In the most recent instance for me, I tried contacting a lender a couple of days ago and still haven't heard back from her. Ive already moved on. So I'd say timeliness is key.

1.  Refer us to agents or brokers for whom you've closed sales.

I don't send buyers to lenders who say they are goodl  I want to hear it from someone else.

Jordan, I have a lender here that I think the world of. She has saved many of my deals where the buyer's lender botched the whole closing up. One thing a new lender has been doing for me is giving ME referrals. Needless to say I will be using him in the future.

All lenders come to us with the same old story. They don't get a chance to prove it, we have heard it before. Donuts and cookies are eaten and forgotten. Referrals! now there is a thought. That and references.
