My New Favorite Holiday Recipe. Paula Dean's Spice Cake. Have You Tried It?

This past Thanksgiving I was searching the Internet for a few new recipe's. I stumbled upon Paula Dean's Cinnamon Spice Cake. I thought I'd give it a try, since the reviews were so good.

Oh my, oh my it was delicious. You've got to try it! The recipe is so easy. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 (18-ounce) package spice cake mix              
  • 1 (4 serving) package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup corn oil
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease a 10-inch tube pan. Combine cake mix, instant pudding, sour cream, eggs, and corn oil and beat together well. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, and pecans. Pour half of batter into prepared pan and sprinkle with sugar mixture, reserving a little to sprinkle on top. Pour the rest of batter into pan and sprinkle with the rest of sugar mixture. Bake 1 hour. Let cool and remove from pan

Peggy... Oh boy does this sound delicious.  My one question, do you think you can substitute walnuts for the pecans?

Thanks  Valerie!  In my opinion you could easily change the type of nut you use. And for a really decant cake you could top with a butter cream frosting if you knew you were going to use it for a party or something like that.

Everyone in my family loved it!

OH MY!  I was reading your inspection post--which I agree with by-the-way--and saw your beautiful post below and just had to comment!  I love Paula and spice cake is my favorite cake!  Thank you for sharing!  I've printed and am ready to get in the kitchen!

Hi Debe, thanks for dropping in.  I love watching Paula on TV!  She is so funny.  I would love to have her kitchen!!

Actually, I plan on baking a few of these right before the holiday, wrapping them in colored plastic wrap and putting them in pretty tissue filled holiday hat boxes with a small nosegay of flowers for gifts. ( along with the recipe card of course!) I found a few of the boxes at my local craft store for $10.00.Next just cover then with fabric and spray adhesive and top with a gorgeous ribbon. Awesome way to present the cake, it's personal and oh so yummy!
