With the increase in military families moving into our region resulting from BRAC, Moore County NC continues to anticipate significant growth.  Beyond the reasonable commute times to Fort Bragg and Pope AFB, Moore County has much to offer families in terms of "qualilty of life" such as shopping, restaurants, entertainment, great schools, excellent community/town faciiites and organizations and not the least a wide range of affordable housing.

Some of the more popular towns military buyers choose to settle in are the towns of Aberdeen, Southern Pines, Whispering Pines and Vass.  Below you'll find a brief description of each town and a link to search current listings.

Aberdeen

Aberdeen is located in the southern part of Moore County. Its downtown area is located right near the intersection of Highway's 1 and 5. Aberdeen, originally called Blue's Crossing is very much a historic town; its original residents, the Scottish Highlanders-among the first settlers in all of Moore County-settled the area around 1850. In later years it became well known as a railroad town and for its industry and manufacturing. Today, in addition to homes located in and around the original downtown area, newer homes and townhomes are sprouting up in subdivisions throughout the town. Aberdeen measures a little over 9 square miles and has a population of almost 5,000.

Southern Pines

Homes options in Southern Pines include properties in the historic downtown (Broad Street) area, traditional rural subdivisions and single family homes, condominium/townhome subdivisions, farms and equestrian properties. Southern Pines measures over 16 square miles and has a population of about 12,000. It is probably the most conveniently located town in Moore County. You're close to the county's most popular shopping areas and restaurants.

Whispering Pines

Just north of Southern Pines, Whispering Pines is a growing town that still retains a somewhat rural feel.  You'll find a good number of neighborhoods with moderate priced homes, and some new communities developed in recent years.  Plans are moving forward to open two food stores (Harris Teeter and Food Lion) in the near term and several new shops flanking them.

Vass

The town of Vass is located in the eastern part of the county, very close to Fort Bragg. In addition to many country homes, you'll find the Woodlake community-a large gated golf and lake community. Vass is a small town with many rural roads; it measures around 3 square miles and its total population is about 800.  You'll find many listings in Vass, the majority single family homes.
