North Loop: A Rising Austin Neighborhood!

North LoopCentral Austin: North Loop was at one time an oft-forgotten part of Austin's funkiness that everyone has come to know and love.  These days, however, the area has seen some really great development and the retail in the area rivals other "kitschy" parts of town like South Congress or "The Drag" on Guadalupe.  The origin of "North Loop's" name comes from the main thoroughfare running through this small but vibrant neighborhood: North Loop Boulevard, located between and running parallel to Koenig Lane and 51st Street.  Along this stretch you will find a lot of neat little shops and restaurants, like Epoch, Austin's favorite 24hr coffee shop, or The Parlour, the best punk rock pizza place in town, not to mention the many "vintage" consignment shops.  If you're big on shopping local, you're in luck- just about every business in this neighborhood is locally owned and operated!

North Loop is sandwiched between two beloved Austin neighborhoods- Hyde Park and Allandale.  This means great locality to grocery stores like Hyde Park Grocery or H-E-B and walking distance to McCallum High School.  If you prefer to bike or bus instead of using your car, North Loop is one of the few neighborhoods to prominently feature bike lanes and is well covered by Cap Metro routes.  It's also less than 10 minutes away from downtown and only 20 minutes to the north and south ends of Austin.

The homes in this area were mostly built in the 1950s as single family homes, but nearly every single one has gone through extensive remodeling over the years.  Because of this, the houses are rather unique and there's a type for every person.  There has also been construction on new condos in the last few years, and the design of these condos is extremely unique to say the least.  The style is mostly a post-modern industrial look, with concrete walls and metal styling.  Some say it clashes with the rest of the neighborhood, but as time goes on it shows to just be another way that Austin "Keeps it Weird".  The average list price for a home is around $330k, where the median sale price is just over $220k.  Could North Loop be the neighborhood for you?
