What media are you creating about you? and what are you paying for it?

There is no doubt that 2009 will go down as a very challenging time economically, for our nation and for countless individuals, the national media spew out the statistics of foreclosures, loss of jobs, value of retirement and if we are not diligent we can let that permeate our thinking and even effect the media we put out there about ourselves.

I am not saying that we need to all be Pollyanna and put on smiles and cheery faces, however what you say in a blog, or what your current status is  can influence perceptions about you either positively or negatively.

I have blogged before on the internet making our lives a very small community, and connecting us in ways that bring us closer together despite the challenges of limited time, resources and geographical challenges.  Technology today has opened so many possibilities that we are in the midst of something revolutionary in the way we do business but its happening at such a rapid pace that some do not recognize.

Take an inventory of the media and the outlets that you are apart of for next years business plan, will these help you reach your goals, will they hinder you? Maybe some media needs to be weeded out?  If your business cards currently  have 20 symbols on them of websites  you can be reached at but no room for your name and phone number you might rethink this strategy.

Before you begin to write that blog on the worst client ever ? ask yourself what does that say to other potential clients about me?    We all need to vent sometimes but perhaps some media touch more people than need to know about an issue you had, do i really want this video of me complaining played on you tube with 100,000 plays?

Pricing in media these days has become very affordable- many times you can create media online about yourself without it costing you anything but time!

Look back at 2009 on what worked well for you, and what did not was this profitable or was this a time waster, was there a return on the investment of time that I have put in - I tracked Active Rain this year and found that this blog was responsible for approximately 15% of the busines closed in 2009 - that is business that would not be in the door had it not been for someone reading about me here.

I wish everyone a very Happy and successful New Year in 2010 -

Darren: Great post! I think keeping positive and writing blogs that will benefit people in someway is the way to go (something of value, a positive experience, words of encouragement, etc).

Thanks and Happy Holidays.
