So you are ready to buy your first home in San Pedro, California! What an exciting time! Congratulations by the way on taking advantage of this fantastic time to buy! Prices are low, interest rates are low and blah, blah, blah! Aren’t you tired of hearing that stuff? Even I am at this point! We know interest rates are low and prices are the lowest they have been in decades. That is great news but now what?
There are so many things to learn now. Where do you want to live? What neighborhood makes you feel comfortablehere in San Pedro? How big should the house be? What price range should you shop in? Wait a minute…
You say you haven’t spoke to a lender yet? Uh, ok that is the number one priority. There is no point to sitting up late at night looking at all the pretty houses online and trying to find the one you fall in love with in San Pedro, only to find you cannot qualify to purchase it.
Well how do you go about finding a lender that will not rip you off and get you the best loan possible? May I suggest finding a Realtor first? One who serves San Pedro and knows the area well. After you find the home you want to buy you will go over comparables with your Realtor. This shows in the last 60-90 days how much homes are selling for in San Pedro, are listed for or have not sold for because they were too high. This is a great help to you so that you do not over pay for a home but you don’t want to offer to low either. Low offers in this market I guarantee will not get you a home!
Once in escrow there is an escrow period, full of things you will complete with your Realtor and your lender. You will sign lots of documents which will be explained to you along the way but expect to have a very large folder of papers when all is said and done.
