Homes for Heroes is asking our affiliates and friends of heroes to search your databases, to recommend a family for the February 2010 episode ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition. This is of extreme urgency. We will need this in the next day or so. For the February episode, we are looking for someone in the Texas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama or South Carolina areas. Please forward any names support@homesforheroes.com Here are some of the criteria:

1. The applicant must own their home and have deed or title to it.
2. There must be an urgent need for the makeover.
3. The applicant’s home should not be a nice or newer home (remember,
they tear them down) and home should have serious issues.
4. Any extra story of deserving in an interesting way would be a nice
additional element.
5. This is not necessary but it’s always nice if there are children in
the family.

As you all have come to realize… our true heroes in need are often humble and won’t ask for help. Please obtain as much information as possible and forward it to us immediately. Time is of the essence!

Two great programs here. I have helped on 2 Extreme Makeover Home Edition homes here in Clarksville, TN.  It is great to see the community come together and help a deserving family. I would be happy to help again.  I do know of one family I recently met here in Tennessee thatcould truly be helped.

Boy do I. My deceased cousin's 18/19 year old daughter is living in a rv that is falling apart with a new baby and they are desperate for help. They are trying to build a "house" which most of us would call a tool shed using donated materials from a church and family but it's still not something most of us would live in. Her mother was a drug addict, her father was an alcoholic in and out of prison that died of diabetes and her grandmother who was raising her got lung cancer and died leaving her with no one to care for her. My female cousin took her in but she had issues of her own and this girl has just never had it easy. She's gone back to school to get her diploma to make a better life for her child which means she can't work and her husband....well he doesn't even speak English. If anyone needs help...this girl does! She lives in Plantersville TX and owns her land that I believe she got from insurance or something after she became and "orphan". You can call me if you want more information. 832.752.6962

Cheri, I hope your relatives are chosen.  They sound very deserving of a break.  Blessings to you and they over the holiday.

I, as well hope your relative is chosen. That seems like a lot for a young woman to bear. She deserves a little break. Best of luck

In the light of recent problems with 2 families losing their homes, I hope the program works on making sure that does not happen again and I am glad they haven chosen to look for a heroe this time.

HI!  Helen,

I posted a request yesterday as well, but since your post is featured, hopefully you will get some great feedback.  Sounds like Cheri has someone who really needs help!

I know someone that I think should be recommended . Dot Drake of Mad River Road in Thornton NH. Dot is an older woman that has made a life of helping others . Her late husband, William was the fire Chief back when it was a voluntary position .Bill died many years ago and Dot has continued to put her community first . Dot ran a small daycare for children whose families could not afford the other daycares in the area. She was an avid yardsaler fto benefit the  Boyscouts , and other community services. Every year even though times were tough for her, she helped with the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for others . Always putting others above herself. Her mobile has deteriorated into leaking everywhere and her health has gone the same way. Multiple issues with her heart and strokes have left her struggling to exist. And yet every day she is thinking of others . I nominate Dorothy Drake of Mad River Road in Thornton NH  if they want to help someone that really needs it and someone that made a difference .

The TV show did an episode in our town and it was simply amazing.  The family in question was truly in dire need.  Their name had been submitted by a local police officer.  That would be a good place to start, as they are well connected in the community and usually are aware of extreme circumstances.

Darlene-I hope you sent the request to the email indicated as well.  Dot sounds like a deserving person who could use some help.  I just hope she owns the land her mobile is on and it's not in a mobile home park.

So many deserving people.  I will keep them all in my prayers that their lives be blessed.  Would love an opportunity to help if it lands in Georgia.

There are many deserving people out there. I would like to see these types of shows and programs motivate more private organizations to do the same thing....even if they don't get the national attention.

Darlene,

Can you send me Dot's contact info and anything else...a relative perhaps, photo, etc. I will need this rather quickly. She sounds like an awesome candidate.

Thank you.

Cheri (and others), Please check into Habitat for Humanity for your cousin's daughter.  They may be able to help and if not are usually well connected to other social services in the area so that this young woman and her baby can get the help they need for a better life.

Paula,

We are the first filter. The application would come later. Just send me an overall short snap shot of the person you wish to nominate and any pertinent information. As soon as possible, if you can.

Phil,

With the exception of this particular episode, and obvious consideration for cooperating weather, the show is need driven not really state driven. Therefore if you have a compelling nominee for future episodes; by all means forward them on.

Thanks

Hey Darlene,

I would really like more info or contact info for Dot. Her story is great. Do you know if her trailer is on land she owns? The inital call to action here was for a warmer state, as that is the for the episode to be shot in February, however; my fault, we are looking for candidates for future episodes as well.

Thank you

Dot and Cheri, good luck.

Corinne, two people who had the Extreme Makeover?

I'm sending this call-out to my sphere.
