I am continually amazed at the on going stream of new services offered by Google.  Of course, the infamous search engine but also GMail, Google Maps, Google Earth, their new OS (operating system coming soon) and now Google Wave, for real time communication and collaboration.

But the feature just caught my attention is called Favorite Places on Google.  This feature combines Google Earth mapping with customer reviews which are accessed through your cell phone and the unique QR (Quick Response) code for each of over 100,000 places.  QR codes are those square pixeliated "bar codes" you see on UPS packages. Here's how it works:  Let's say you are visiting Chicago and you see a restaurant that looks interesting.  On the window would be a QR code (if registered with Google) that you scan with your phone (with the required app).  Through your mobile browser, you are taken to a site that has a review of the establishment and other information.

The QR system was developed in Japan for auto manufacturers but was soon adapted to the purpose stated above.  Business owners can now get their own QR codes and become part of this new Google service.  Visit Google Favorite Places to get more information and to see actual scannable QR codes.

I saw this being used in Japan. . you point your cell to a busy street and it tells you about the different businesses  there. . including customers reviews.

I love new technology and I can wait for  this to catch on. .

Author Bio: After many years of working in the sales business, I have chosen to dedicate my career to the real estate industry. In more casual terms, I have decided to build my business around helping people fulfill their dreams of home ownership with a very personal touch. Unlike many in this industry who "got their license to play around in real estate", I am committed to giving 100% to each and every customer. Buying or selling your home is a complicated process that requires the knowledge, skills and effort that a part time agent cannot provide. Whether you are buying your first home, moving up because of a growing family, relocating due to a job transfer, seeking that dream estate on the golf course or downsizing in the golden years, I believe it is my obligation to treat everyone with honor and respect and with the highest degree of service and professionalism. Feel free to call me to discuss your real estate needs. I promise that I will take good care of you.
