Memories....
That's what Christmas is...
Especially for the ones who are gaining in years...
Each year I stress over the commercialism of Christmas, the installation of decorations in November or earlier....
Each year I swear that I am not going to drag out the old antique decorations at my house and I'm surely not going to buy any new ones since the house is practically empty with no little ones waking before dawn and dragging me out.
Husband is a baby, himself. He starts saying, "Are we not going to have any decorations for Christmas?" I say to him, "You know where they are. Go get them out." He does nothing. But every few days I get this pathetic sad look from him.
Finally, about now, two weeks before Christmas, which is plenty of time for decorating, I start dragging out the old stuff.
There's the Christmas Santa collection that I've gathered up over the years with some being gifts from kids. I really like those Santas. Some I like better than others and I really like this one that is an old chalk sleeping Santa with a price of 69 cents on the bottom. You know back when chalk was big, that would have been an expensive Santa!
And here is the ugly candle Santa that my son said was the ugliest thing he'd ever seen. Therefore, each year it has to be beside his picture. I lost him in 1996 and it still hurts to think of but I know he chuckles when the ugly Santa and the two old worn out decorations made by his beloved grandmother come out to share Christmas with him. He had the greatest sense of humor. He'd be giggling all over again about how he hated that candle.
Here are the hand-made decorations made by my students and myself when I taught Art in the school system!
Oh! Here's the Christmas cow made by a client whom I sold a house to and still love! I have to call her and remind her of how much I love this cow.
And here are the angels from Junior Auxiliary's Angel Tree. Every year the Junior Auxiliary would make angels of some kind, decorate a tree with them and when someone gave money or adopted a child to buy Christmas for they'd get an angel. I have a lot of them and I love them all. Sadly, they've discontinued the angels even though they still do Christmas for Kids.
Well, guess what?
