Home winterization!
When getting ready for the winter and making sure your home is ready for extreme temperatures, always remember that winterization starts with the little things. We have already covered the importance of caulking the outside of your home, but what about other forms of winterization. One form of winterization that I'm particularly thinking of and often overlooked by home owners is the outside faucet "Hoodie" or cover that is placed over the protruding faucet and handle sticking outside the exterior of the home. Remember, when it is 1 degree outside with a wind chill of -15 degrees, your pipes are exposed and may freeze. By doing a thorough exterior home winterationcan easily keep major home damage from occurring.
You can find these faucet covers or "Hoodies" at Walmart or Home Depot for about $1.50-$3.00 and they are easily placed over the faucet and seal right up against the siding of the home.
