Yesterday's post Name That Photo - Where & What? Showed this photo:

And we didn't have any guesses that came close!
A cage elevator in the lobby hand-operated by an attendant is a throwback to the past.
It's the elevator in the lobby of the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego! Seen in The comedy film "Some Like It Hot," starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.

L. Frank Baum, the author of "The Wizard of Oz" books, was a frequent guest of the Hotel del Coronado and designed the crown-shaped chandeliers in the hotel's formal dining room. Other guests included England's Prince of Wales (who may have met his legendary love, Wallis Simpson, there), and a list of movie stars too numerous to mention.

Liz ---- No, I would never have guessed the old elevator -- good one, there!!!!!!!

Happy Holidays
Good one Liz - I was way off. I wouldn't have guessed this one correctly.
You come up with some good ones, Liz! I don't think I would have guessed elevator - awesome shots!
Liz, Great test. I wouldn't have gotten it either. There was a magazine that used to show a photo of something familiar close up for readers to guess. It was always fun to try and figure out.
Liz, one of my favorite places!!!! Were you there and when???? I am only 90 minutes from there!!!
As usual I'm late getting to the party. Not sure if I would have guessed right, though.
I was sitting here all night waiting for my hint an hour!!!
Jane P- lol.......girl you gotta get a life :-) i promise i won't let you don't next time :-)
Jane G - I loved it - it was at the tail end of a Mexican Cruise - but frankly it was the highlight - i absolutely loved it there!
You know I've never seen one of those in person, just on television and in the movies. Interesting photo. Next time I visit my mom in law I think I'm going to see this elevator too.
Never would have guessed that one!
Check out Jeff Dowler's last post. They are ice skating at the Del.
Liz - This was a difficult photo to guess. Better luck next time, eh?
I would not have gotten that but it looks like an elevator I rode in Bologna Italy.
Nice ! I've seen lots of these type of elevators in some of the older buildings in london and NY City ! Nicely captured :o)
Liz, I would have never even had a guess to come close to what it was. I remember watching Some Like It Hot as a kid. Great movie and beautiful hotel.
Did you really think anyone could have guessed it? I also remember that movie - very entertaining!
Liz, I would not have gotten it----good one!
There is an L. Frank Baum Museum over in Coronado, too. Lots of cool stuff.
Liz - at least I had the cage part right
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas
I love that film, but I never would have gotten that. That is really cool! Somewhere I have a photo of the chair James Bond sat in while in the Hong Kong Restaurant "The Bottoms Up Bar"
