Wyndham Ocean Ridge ResortWyndham Ocean Ridge Resort

Encompassing 300 acres Wyndham Ocean Ridge is Edisto Beach's largest and only gated community.  Developed in 1971 and originally named "Oristo" it was marketed as "A Seaside Family Resort tucked within the Tropical Forest of Edisto Island".  It was also home to Edisto first and only golf course designed by Tom Jackson.  It opened in 1973 with a helicopter landing on the course bringing Sam Snead, Bob Goalby, and Chuck Matlock to play the first round. It was ranked among South Carolina's top courses and was famous for it's Live Oaks and cool ocean breezes.

Ocean Ridge has over a dozen associations within it's gates.  There are numerous condo neighborhoods and small single family subdivisions.  Vacant lots are also available.  Ocean Ridge was purchased by Fairfield Resorts in 1976.  Fairfield marketed Ocean Ridge as a Leisure Lifestyle.  Quiet, Unhurried, Natural, and Simple.  Where property owners could "enjoy all the excitement of a complete recreational resort and all the peace and serenity of a community designed for luxury living."  Fairfield also started numerous time share opportunities within Ocean Ridge.  They became the largest employer on the island.  Most people agree Fairfield put Edisto on the map in regards to out of state visitors.  Fairfield was the largest time-share developer in the US with resorts from coast to coast.  In 2006 Fairfield Resorts was purchased by Wyndham Worldwide.

Wyndham Ocean Ridge Cabana

The main attraction of Ocean Ridge is it's location but a close second is it's ammenity package.  They have the Beach Front Cabana, 4 pools, tennis courts, Recreation Center, Playground, and a Putt-Putt course.  The Recreation Program also oversees all activities, tours, and programs.  The Cabana has been a major gathering place for property owners and guests since I was a teenager.  It provides easy access to the  beach for shelling, fishing, or just relaxing.  The cabana does have a boardwalk to the beach for anyone who needs easier access.  There are also rest rooms, showers, and dressing rooms located inside the cabana.

The Plantation Grille

The golf course and restaurant were purchased in 2006.  The new owners completed a multi-million dollar renovation and upgrade on the entire property.  The name was changed to the Plantation Course at Edisto and The Plantation Grille.  They also added a bar named simply, "Grover's".  The course and restaurant are open to the public.  A new pro shop was built that included a modern member's area and office space. 19 Fairway Drive Edisto Beach, SC  29438 Telephone: (843) 869-1111

Wyndham Ocean Ridge Resort

Ocean Ridge has a property that fits any budget.  Condos start at $99,000, Homes at $324,000, and lots at $150,000.  I challenge anyone to find a better deal, closer to the beach, in the southeast.  Ocean Ridge is a very short walking distance to the beach from any part of the resort.  For more information visit www.DiscoverEdisto.com.
