The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is likely to accept a petition from Western Fairfax landowners who want to tax themselves in order to pay for three future Metro stops, including Reston, Herndon and one near Route 28.  According to the Herndon Connection, the Board of Supervisors is expected to create a special tax district in order to cover most of the funding for these three proposed stops.

Homeowners will not be expected to pay this tax, even if they live in the newly created tax district.  "Landowners who will be taxed are those who own commercial property close to the proposed stations and who would stand to financially benefit from their proximity to the new transit hubs," according to the Connection.

A final vote on the proposed tax district by the Fairfax County Board is expected on December 21.
