  • cereal/oatmeal
  • canned tuna and chicken
  • peanut butter

I have to ask: what is Zoey the Cool Cat doing in that photo??

And yes, do give gifts for the Salvation Army to distribute.  I've been involved with their Adopt-a-Family for the past few years, and they really need things for the families who are displaced and literally have nothing. Remember if you have gently-used kitchen items or linens, they can use them, too.

In the Memphis area we have the Angel Tree campaign.  It is a wonderful program that the Salvation Army operates that will provide presents for children that would, otherwise, not get anything.

Thanks for bringing attention to this need.  I'll have to check with the Salvation Army in our area.

This is a very timely post. There is always someone that has less than we do. I always clean out the closets for old coats, sweaters, and shirts to donate to the local shelter. I give the old blankets and dog toys to the SPCA. The upside is I have a spiffy clean house and room for the Christmas stuff. Good luck!

Jim,

Thanks for bringing attention to this cause. There are so many people in need right now. Hopefully this will motivate people who maybe have a little extra, to give to their local Salvation Army.

Hey, Shoshana - Zoey the Cool Cat likes to hang out on the back of one of our office chairs and fall asleep. Sometimes when she does, she has little kitty cat nightmares, like being chased by a big dog or a bigger kitty cat. She'll twitch, snort, and snore with her mouth hanging open. My husband used to do Adopt-A-Family when he lived in Texas, but we just donate anything we can.

Hey, Dana - I figure since I don't, and won't, have any children, I can give something to make someone else's children happy.

Hey, Irene - I would be surprised if there's not something connected to the Salvation Army in your area.

Hey, Betina - We usually clean out our house once a quarter. Anything we haven't used in six months has a good shot at being recycled in some form or fashion.

Hey, Carra - I think the number of people in need is going to increase before it decreases.
