A lot of people have asked me, "What do you really do everyday as a Realtor?!" It came to mind that most people outside of the industry (why would they?) and maybe even a few people in the industry don't know what a typical day consists of for a busy Realtor.
We Realtors on the other hand know that any day can be unpredictable and our lives really do need to allow flexibility. Let me share with you my day as I planned it and then how it went nothing as planned.
Planned Schedule:
- Check email & respond to all emails requiring attention.
- Respond to prospect emails.
- Blog on ActiveRain.
- Go to listing that closed escrow to remove sign and lockbox.
- Get gas (that's important!)
- Go to office.
- Call on short sale files to make sure sale dates are extended, etc.
- Check on files in escrow.
Not to bad of a day right? Here is the real version:
- Checked emailed, responded to most needing attention.
- Paid for a client's house cleaning bill because of a mix up.
- Left message for lender representing my buyer who still doesn't have loan docs with a scheduled close date of Dec. 21 and we are on our 3rd extension.
- Got a call, a buyer wants to write an offer this morning! Great, that is awesome!
- Typed offer, drive to meet client and get signatures.
- Stopped to get gas and my card doesn't read, it says to see attendant inside - this always perturbs me.
- Get to office around 11:15 a.m. Realize today is our office lunch outing to celebrate Christmas, which somehow I knew nothing about...but thought excellent!
- Call one bank regarding short sale file, authorization is not in bank's system, they won't give me any information.
- Go to lunch party.
- Call buyer's agent back who wants something done about the gopher that has dug a tunnel under my listing in which we are in escrow with.
- Call the buyer's lender who still doesn't have loan docs.
- A short sale negotiator calls me (yeah) but tells me the commission is reduced from 6% to 4%.
- Run out the door to meet the handyman to get a quote to move furniture from one house to another.
- Oh yes, I have to remove that sign & lockbox on the property that closed escrow yesterday!
- Respond back to new emails that I have gotten during the day.
- Talk to broker about today's accomplishments. It is now 5:30 p.m.
- I didn't even get to blog on AR until 9:00 p.m.!
Whew, I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is sure to be another busy day.
