It's amazing to think that 2009 is almost over and with that the end of the first decade of the 2000s.

In a year filled with scandals and mis-steps by people in the public eye it is always interesting to see which ones resonated the most with people.

For me the scandals that surprised me or disappointed me the most are:

Tiger Woods - I live in a family full of golfers (my husband, dad, and countless relatives all golf at any opportunity) who usually sit in awe of Tiger Woods' golfing abilities.  When the rumors started that he was having an affair I was only mildly disappointed until more and more women started coming out of the woodwork.  I cannot helped but feel duped by the carefully crafted public persona that he has presented to the world for so many years.

John Edwards - I have talked in the past about how much a fan I was of John Edwards.  I had been a big backer of him as a Presidential candidate in 2004 and even in 2008 I would have loved to have seen him as the Vice-President with Obama.  One of the things that appealed to me is his apparent focus on family and dedication to his wife Elizabeth.  Once again, I feel duped.

Chris Brown - In a society where we are so used to seeing your singers and actors getting in trouble with the law, I always admired Chris Brown and his clean image.  Imagine my horror when he is accused of battering his girlfriend.  I can no longer respect anyone who violates someone else in that way.  Violence of any kind has no place in a relationship.

Governor Sanford - This was yet another cheating scandal this year.  However, what disappointed me here was the little regard he had for his wife's feelings.  He came on national tv and told everyone that the mistress was his soul-mate and that he was trying to fall in love with his wife again.  At least other cheaters have the decency to pretend to be contrite in public.

There were of course many other scandals and celebrity bad behavior but none impacted me as much as these.  Which 2009 scandals left an impression with you?

The costliest in potential income may be Tiger Woods but all are really disappointing. The damage done to those closest to the celebrity is the greatest.

Stacey-Ann,

Not a good year. Not only did they betray their family's trust, they betrayed their supporters as well.

I agree that Tiger is a disappointment. However. I don't think he needs to be quite so dramatic and leave the golfing world altogether. It's a sad day for golf!!!

Gary - I agree, those closest to these celebrities are paying the biggest price.

Rich - They have betrayed their image

Rob - I am amazed he kept it hidden for so long

Ellie - I don't think he will be gone forever, just laying low hoping that it will all blow over
