Go for the Gold! Part 2 of a series

This post focuses on points from Inviting Members.

How?  How can you accumulate points Inviting Members?

Well - the glib answer is - invite them and encourage them to sign up.

How did I add 233 to my Active Rain "Downline"?

You earn "x" number of points for the new member joining - 25, 50, 100 - it varies according to the Rain Gods preference.  Currently it's 50.

You also earn 10% of the new members points that they earn - so you usually see any where from 40 to 90 additional points due to their initial profile buildout.

So - estimate about 100 points total for each new recruit - and if they prove to be Active in the Rain - that continues to increment.

The response rate was about 2-3% - so for each 1,000 invitations, 20-30 people signed up.  You can use an alternative method of inviting which gets the word out more quickly to your database - but that's difficult to personalize and I found the response rate to be significantly lower.

Of my total 233,568 points, 55,000 (about 24%) come from invitations.  I consider these points "leverage" opportunities - once they are in your downline - their participation continues to boost your total.  For many months a classic example of this was Jamie Maxwell in Nevada ranked in the top 25 due to his "Invite" points.  391 in his downline!  I have a ways to go before I have that many!

Every day starting October 5 I used the "Invite" mask within Active Rain to issue the maximum number of invitations (50 per day) to real estate industry folks in my database.  When I say "every day" it was really "every day I remembered to do it and had the time to do it - but it's fair to say that it was most days.  Since the first of the year that dropped way off my radar.  The month by month invite stats are available for all to see here on the Rain.

Stay tuned for future posts in this series.....

I've invited a number of friends that wanted to join, but, for some reason, they are already in the system.

They can't join, but they are already in the system.  They must have done something in the past to get in the system.

I've got about 6 people in that condition that really want to join, but my invitation to them goes no where and when they try to activate, nothing happens.

There's a glitch somewhere.

Lenn - This does sound like a system issue.  Have you tried both the person specific invites and the "here is a link to click on" option?  Perhaps a security setting issue on their PC?  Worst case - I suppose you could get on the phone with them and enroll them yourself - then forward their username and password to them so they can login and build their profile.

Thanks Tony.

I'll try that one day soon.  There are several folks I want in the Homefinders.com Relocation and Referral Group, but no matter how many times I invite them and they respond, nothing happens.

It's a great way to build a base that continues to contribute to your points even if you find yourself inactive - like me!

I have invited a few and they signed up, just not the way I told them to so I didn't get the credit :(  I guess I need to keep on it :)

Tony:
I was unaware (tell you I had not read the rules) of the limit on invites per day; but never gave it any great thought on it either.

I've always thought that inviting others was a good way of making points.  Haven't had much success though.

Dawn - I found that to be an issue too.  The Rain Gods were able to remedy that in the back office - as long as both the invited person and me confirmed they had signed up as a result of an invitation, they were "linked" to me.  Luckily - it was only 3 or 4 times that I had to go through that process.  Also - I think AR relies on "cookies" - so if the person signing up blocks them - it may not work.

As a newbie, I appreciate the information.  I am not a "gamer" but it is always great to know how to earn points for what you do.  Thanks again.

Fran - Yes - I was intially astonished to see Jamie's total continue to climb given that he hasn't been Active in the Rain since the end of September!

Dan - I think the Active Rain Gods draw a distinction between "participating" and "gaming" - in fact I think that will be a separate post!

Tony - great post - those leverage points have certainly helped me - at 119 and growing :-) You're my hero - lots of invite points and not shamed by the term 'not real AR points" - you go!!! I'm right behind you - in spirit of course cause you're miles in front!!

Cyndee - Glad to hear you are fully participating in all that Active Rain has to offer.  The rough translation for "not real AR points" is "I disagree with AR for offering points for that - even though I'm not the decision maker"!  Keep on inviting!
