Have you ever looked out your living room window and went "woo what is or was that?" Well that is exactly what I did this last weekend. Here was this giant bird walking down the street, and heading for my neighbors yard. At first glance we thought that it was an ostrich but soon discovered it had wings making it an emu. Emu's are originally indigenous to Australia but are brought over for farming purposes. This guy visited several people on the block so that we could all get pictures, (sorry there not uploaded.) The police were called so that he wouldn't get harmed. The officer did not attempt to catch him however; instead he followed him around town. As far as we know he made it home safe and sound. Only in Nekoosa Wisconsin will you find an emu walking the streets in the winter.

Barry, I have a friend who is a Police Officer in a smaller town who posted on his Facebook page that he hit an emu with his patrol car.  It seems these big birds are getting loose a lot.

How very fun! And might this be the only time an emu will be found walking the streets, in winter or otherwise? What a day brightener. We all can use a shift in perspective, if only to enliven our day. Thanks for sharing. You will post the photo?

Barry, here is his FaceBook post on the subject,

Today I hit a EMU.. (large bird from Austrailia) in my vehicle, which caused $1,200 Dollars damge.... I know, you cant make this stuff up, but it happend... Said bird, after running into my car, got up- Ps.. took awhile, as it has no arms.. and glared at me.

He later said, "Don't tell your kids I hit Big Bird."
