Gaithersburg Residents Asked to Prepare for Inclement Weather
Posted 12/18/2009
Based on the current weather forecast from the City's weather service, there is a 100% chance of at least 4" of snow, 90% chance of 6" or more, and a 35% chance of 12" or more. Because the snow storm is expected to start later tonight, a snow emergency will go into effect at midnight tonight. This early declaration of the snow emergency is to give residents the opportunity to find alternate parking locations off of the snow emergency routes. The emergency will be lifted as soon as road conditions warrant.
Public Works is preparing for the storm and has started pre-treating roads with salt brine. Unlike regular salt, the salt brine can be applied to the road surface hours before the storm.
No parking on snow emergency routes will be in effect during the snow emergency. Failure to comply could result in ticketing or towing. The City will be also be enforcing NO PARKING THIS SIDE OF STREET during the snow event.
Also, residents are responsible for clearing sidewalks abutting their property. This is often easier to accomplish if done during or soon after the weather event, however, residents should bear in mind that it takes several hours after the event for City crews to clear the streets and it is likely that some snow will be deposited on the sidewalks by plowing operations.
Additional snow emergency information or cancellations will be posted on this website.
