As summer approaches and things start to heat up, you see air conditioners popping in windows all around the
city.

But, did you know burglars also notice this and take it as an open invitation to your home? The reason they do,
is because they know to take the A/C out of the window and crawl in it takes less than 30 seconds. Also, if the
windows are open for the A/C you don't have your alarm system on either.

So, if you do want A/C, and have to install a window unit, please head down to your local hardware store and buy
an A/C window guard. These are bars that connect to your house and go over the A/C unit, so no can break into
your home.

Todd:  Excellent point!   Gotta love those bricks and sponges(?) holding the units level.

I think you forgot to mention that many people are hurt or killed every year by falling AC Units.  The cage also reduces the liability of the unit's owner from lawsuits.

There are so many new options that are also more attractive... I'd love to see a stager cover the window unit dilemma

Hey Todd...when we lived in California a MILLION years ago we never gave thought to the window a/c units making things easy on the home-invaders.  That's an excellent suggestion....99.5% of homes in Las Vegas have A/C Units built-in...we could not live without central A/C.  We have 2 in our home, one upstairs and one downstairs.  We basically don't use the one upstairs though as we close the upstairs off during the summer months.  We are giving serious consideration on going to room evaporative coolers to save on electricity and electric bills....our bills in the summer run as high as $350 (ugh) and the power company raised the bill of the average home by $30 last month!   The homes without central a/c are older homes built in the 30's and 40's.

Mary,

With a 115 degree weather, you are not hot you are just plain walking dead! I don't know how you do it. It got to 90 year yesterday and I was dying!

And David,

Here is a stagers answer to A/C - I decided not to post it originally..But thanks flickr

Now I'm waiting to see one of those articles that you see about the burglar suing the property owner because the AC unit fell on him while he was breaking into the house....
