School Districts up-dates and additions:
...East Detroit...where all the School Unions previously proposed to the Board that contracts be revisited
in order to cut the Budget; Yesterday, the EDSD school Board did meet and at the conclusion did come up with a plan to cut the Budget $2.2M of the deficit. There are additional cuts needed to balance. While the final plan must be readied for presentation by January, the Board must include projected cuts & savings drawn from the upcoming contract negotiations with all the bargaining units.  As the 5 unions have already proposed these re-negotiations, things may work out for the District. All sides must be applauded for their efforts to keep the District viable.

...New Haven and Richmond SD have reached an impasse on consolidation plans: Both Districts are taking steps in preparation of Budget Cuts needed to account for less from the State.
New Haven has notified Richmond SD that they would not pursue a district consolidation with Richmond; instead it [NHSD] will seek to consolidate more services with other neighboring districts.

...Richmond SD dealing with the prospect [as are all districts] of cuts is moving toward the hiring of a full time Superintendent held now by an interim person. They already have eliminated the custodial staff in favor of a private contractor. Looking to other contract groups will be needed. Though no union group has discussed concessions at this time, the Teachers union is currently negotiating its next contract.

...Chippewa Valley SD is turning to the voters on Feb. 23, 2010 to decide a Bond initiative. If approved, the funds will be designated for:
 ...technology up-grades
 ...safety improvements
 ...to facilitate energy conservation
...security issues--expanded card access systems, bus replacements, energy-saving improvements that
include efficient  lighting, & auto-shut off; other items are.. This is a very LONG, detailed list of wishes
wants, or decisions already made. the full story can be read at: www.macombdally.com An article by

As other school districts post their plans of action: they will be listed here for your benefit.

Road work for Macomb & St. Clair Counties

...on December 16, 2009, the outlook for these counties to proceed with projects was Dismal at Best.
many in the two Counties read that projects were put on-hold by MDOT due to lower gas tax funds &
the State's difficulty to "match Federal Funding". This was dramatic to Macomb Co. as a recent report from the MI Asset Management Council reported that Macomb Co. has 753 miles of poor roads, the 7th worse in the State. [Yikes, what must the other 6 areas be like] This sad news was reported upon by
Andrew Benot-voice Staff Writer / Dec. 16, 2009 / page 3 / see: www.VoiceNews.com
Today,18 December 2009 The Macomb Daily / Metro & State section / pg 4A printed the notification that on Wednesday 16 December, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to exempt the state from having to come up with matching funds. This is put in the Bill for a $154 B Federal stimulus package.
So, Michigan, IS this good news or pressure to push for another stimulus package. The jury is still out.

I leave you with one of the funniest lines I have heard; it Helps IF you are a Dog owner: on HGTV's House Hunters tonight, the wife of the Household was introducing their 2 dogs; both Goldens; one of which was to Retrieve the Ball; however, the "Dog wins, Human looks Foolish rule was in place; as one child threw the ball across the yard, the appointed Retriever bounded after it; got the ball And stopped--at this point in the sequence, the Mom said: "He is not to be called a Golden Retriever, but instead should be called a Golden Receiver"

Always good to "leave them laughing".  As the MI world turns, I will try to keep up-dates coming.
