My owner is a Realtor with Century 21 Award in San Diego. With each new post to my blog, I use a different picture of my cat. How ironic, perhaps, that the last picture in my old pictures directory is the one here since it might go well with the nature of this post.

I'm not usually on ActiveRain at this time of night, but I feel like I just finished writing the millionth offer for this Client over the past three months and wanted to wind down my day by reading a few blogs.

What I've noticed recently is that there seems to be a propensity, getting more common, to build up the Realtor profession by denigrating other professions:

  1. Are you the Realtor's version of the used car salesman?
  2. How are Realtors like politicians?
  3. If you want to be an ambulance chaser, get your law degree!

I know that all professions have their bad apples, but are we as Realtors really in such dire straits that the only way we can make ourselves look good is by comparing ourselves to the worst of other professions?

Even if you don't like used car salesmen (I have a friend who is a used car salesman, and I like both he and his wife), politicians, or attorneys, they are legitimate professions with bad apples just like ours. Perhaps we should clean that mirror AND our own toilets..............?

That's it. Off to bed.

Jim, I'm a former car salesman, finance manager and have been known to fraternize with attorneys.  I've found studs and duds in all lines of work.  In real estate the consequences of our acts can be hundreds of thousands of dollars and literally bankrupt our clients.

Dan's right . . . it is not the profession, it's the people. Real estate agents can be, and should be a great help to people, particularly now. Hope you get a good night's sleep.

Goodness knows, Real estate agents are compared in a negative light to others.

This is something to which car sales persons, new or used become accustomed.

However, I believe that politicians are fair game.  Their pomposity and propensity for prevarication makes them an outstanding example of slimy behavior.

Attorneys??  I love mine and respect almost all.  Almost.

Another great reason why referrals are the best way to separate yourself from others .

Jim:  Somone was a bit cranky yesterday!  Hope you have a better day today......

p.s., both of the toilets in my house are really clean.  I have to do the mirrors today though.   I sure do miss my cleaning lady!

Hey, Jim. Like you, I feel that it is great to vent every now and then. Great way to let some steam off. Take care, Jim

Jim,

I agree there's no point comparaing to those who are at the lower end of other groups. The real estate industry would be wise to elevate the level, raise ethical standards and become a true profession. For many, it's just a job.

Jim, that picture of Zoey is cracking me up!  I read another post recently about this subject.  The writer, now a Realtor®, was a car salesman earlier in his career.

Unfortunately there are a a few who give the rest of us a bad name and you're right it's the same for every profession.

Perfect illustration -- kudos to Zoey the Cool Cat! And if someone needs to justify their existence by doing bad comparisons, that's their problem. I'm tired of being told the Realtors are sleazy, out for a quick buck, lazy, rude, and you-fill-in-the-blank -- but arguing isn't the way to change anyone's mind.

Jim - I know I could pick Zoey out anywhere, even in a line up!!  Like you said all professions have their bad apples, that is just life.  I do agree with you as I see alot of bad press and blogging from those in my lending industry bashing modifications and those in it.  I think professionalism is always the best policy and I put the others on ignore as their negativity will bring them down and already has.  I think much of it stems from jealousy, and times are tough so the jealousy factor may be up a notch or two!!  Have you thought about creating a website for Zoey?  www.ZoeyTheCat.com?

Jim,

I think Zoey says it all.... and you have the perfect answer.  Instead of complaining we should follow the code of ethics and the remedies we have to keep our profession cleaned up... let's not step in the Cosmic Cow Pies!

Hey, Endre - This one didn't get accepted either, but my Client is in escrow on an offer we wrote in mid-January.

Hey, Dan - True. But the used car salesman who sells a lemon can actually result in his Clients being killed. That, to me, is worse than bankruptcy.

Hey, Frank - Success in life is usually about the people.

Hey, Lenn - I like the politicians which whom I agree. Generally I only tolerate those with whom I disagree. LOL

Hey, Ty - In real estate it takes a long time to build up a referral-based business.

Hey, Jane - I wish we had a cleaning lady. Or maybe a houseboy, tall, dark and handsome with a nice set of abs and arms! LOL

Hey, Jim - I don't normally vent outside of my home, but my husband was taking a catnap and I was all alone, except for my extended ActiveRain family.

Hey, Brian - There are people in many industries who have not yet found their true calling, but that doesn't mean we should denigrate them. Let's just be positive, pleasant, polite, personable, and professional in our own profession.

Hey, Ann - My husband likes to take nonstandard pictures of Zoey the Cool Cat. I like more of the cute little kitty pictures, but that one is appropriate for this post.

Hey, Brian - One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch....

Hey, Lou - Thanks for stopping by. Always a pleasure.

Hey, Shoshana - No it's not. I like to try to live the type of service I provide.

Hey, Christine - We have a couple of web sites in the works, but we're having problems finding something that's fairly easy to set up and use. We're looking at Joomla and Wordpress, but Wordpress seems to have a lot of fees associated with it in order to keep the spam advertisements off of one's site. Joomla's not as easy as it's claimed to be, but neither is Wordpress.

Hey, Carra - Thanks for the visual of stepping in cosmic cow pies. LOL
