Interesting comments from Jim Amorin, MAI, SRA for his outgoing message as President. He points to data that residential sales are up...sharply and while CRE remains a concern, there is still opportunity in the CRE sector. He also mentions that the nation is recovering from "near economic collapse." As banks return to sound lending practices it is important to remember the need (now more than ever) sound practices and ethics in every field of the real estate industry (my words, not Jim Amorin). Additionally, it is my opinion, and other appraisers I have spoken to, the need to "raise the bar" past the state requirements and to pursue the accredited designation of your choice. For example, I prefer to deal with a GRI agent or a CCIM. I am also talking and listening to builders and agents who indicate that "green is the future...and the future is now."
Finally, the new President for the Appraisal Institute is Leslie Sellers, MAI, SRA. I have had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of occasions and not only is he devoted to the appraisal profession, he is "down to earth" and approachable.
