Hello Kathy, the Columbia River is rather wide at this spot, and makes a great scene for capturing Mt. Hood in the distance. The early British explorers thought this to be a 16,000' high peak at the time (although it is truly just over 11,000') since the river here is only about 50' above sea-level the "base-to-peak" spread is dramatic. Have a Happy and over-the-top prosperous New Year! John
