I was just going through old photos and found my entry in the name that photo category.  This was taken in 2004.  As for clues, it is in a National Monument.  It is the thing underwater and it did play a role in the history of the United States.  It is a place that is warm year round, other than that, I don't know if I give up any more if people will think that it is too easy.  Here it is:

Could it be the escape hatch of the Merrimac or the Monitor... two Civil War ships ?  Or were they primitive submarines.  I dunno.  Back then I didn't follow history much... although I was much too young to be fighting in the Civil War.

Karen: I believe you.  I should have realized how many of our collegues had been to the USS Arizona Memorial.  I tried to get a photo without any of the "oil slick" showing to make it a little more difficult.

Well I wouldn't have guessed.  My Canadian pea brain didn't know that but thanks for sharing.  I will watch for your next entry to the Name That Photo group.

I thought it was a sea turtle!  Is that what the Arizona looks like from above?  I have never been there.
