Mr. Electric Toothbrush's Guide To Firing Friends

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

ToothbrushI wrote recently in a blog post in business and personal planning for ourselves in 2010 about looking through your friends list and perhaps firing a friend or two. Here is

Mr. Electric Toothbrush's Guide To Firing Friends.

You know, they have that superiority attitude to everything in your life. They have the electric toothbrush. You are still brushing manually-tsk, tsk!! They have a better car, house, wife, husband, kids, multiple vacations throughout the year. What about YOU and your sick dog? They couldn't care less. Do they ever call to offer assistance with ANYTHING? The answer is a big FAT No!!! Do they ever take time to LISTEN to you? You know the answer.

Bottom line is they are insecure, they aggravate you, they are NOT helpful, and if you do give them any of your time it is all ONE WAY. Like a street that does not have two directions. Friendships are supposed to be give and take. We can't have anyone suck the living life out of us once we find them and engage with them. Tell them where they can stick their electric toothbrush. I guarantee your 2010 will be off to a much better start than where you are currently. It's ok, you have my permission  to do this. Don't feel guilty or heartless. Sometimes we just need a gentle reminder to move forward in our lives. It's healthy.

You know how everyone can't like you just the way YOU are. Well you are reciprocating. Everyone can't like them either and it is time for YOU to drop out of the picture. Wow, you probably feel lighter already. Onward and upward.

Firing friends that are not good for your life is a GOOD thing!!

If you have to fire a friend then they weren't your friend. Mr. Electric toothbrush looks cute--where did you find him?  Is he a nudist?

Gary, it is true that we should spend our time with those who matter. Tomorrow is uncertain.

Let's see how do I define my friends again? If I have to fire one of my friends, I think I have had a lapse in judgment.

Gary - Love your sense of humor, and the touch or sracasm, but you raise some really good points. It they should or could be fired, well, then, they aren't real friend, so it's not really it?

Our time is too limited to spend with with folks who have other agendas, or who are too wrapped up in their own lives to be sensitive to what is going on in ours.

No one needs friends that make them feel that they don't measure up and never will.

Time for some new friends.

If there is a person in your life that is bringing you down they are not your friend. Get rid of them.

Hey Gary~  You've got to learn to let those poor 'friendships' slip down the road of life!  I think that this should remind us to cherish the good ones that we all have!!  All the best this holiday season!

Very good! Life is too short to have draining "friends" or anyone for that matter. Sometimes we have to work with draining people, but that doesn't mean we have to hang out with them!

Gary - It is hard to do but so important !  Who one surrounds himself with is such a huge determination of both success and where ones life will head.

If having a "friend" means that you have to compromise your integrity to adapt to them, it's time to leave.

Gary, I've had a few like that. It is a drain. So I just let life take it's course and slip away quietly.

Friendship is give and take. Both benefit from the relationship. I have many friends even from high school and college. I am blessed.

This year, my 20-year old son had to point out to me that my "best friend" is NOT my friend at all.  Gulp!  It had been a one-way street for over 20 years, and I had been driving the wrong direction the whole time.

It's very tough to do...but I totally agree that firing friends, family or whoever is sometimes necessary for the health of any business.  It's like pulling the weeds in the garden.
