Window Shopping In Oakville Ontario

Christmas in Downtown Oakville, Oakville shops, Oakville Lakeshore Rd., Jenny Kotulak, Windows of the World Photos

Oakville's downtown shops and boutiques are full of wonderful gifts to surprise your loved ones with this holiday season.  Many of the shops will gift wrap your purchases in a way that I could never duplicate.

At this time of year there is nothing more enjoyable than to stroll down Lakeshore Road on a cold, frosty evening and gaze into the brightly lit storefront windows.  These magic Christmas displays offer a wonderful photo opportunity.

Although my hands were frozen by the time I got my fill of festive fotos, I finished up my Friday evening outing with a frothy, foamy latte from one of the many downtown cafes and coffee shops.

Peeking in the many downtown Oakville restaurant windows, it was evident that many a company Christmas party was in full swing.  My evening of window shopping certainly helped get me into the holiday spirit.

The only thing missing was the snow.

Jenny,

Beautiful collage!   I like to admire the displays in the storefront windows of the stores during the holidays.

Going by your title, I was expecting to see an eclectic collection of different styles of windows on various buildings. The holiday theme was probably a better decision!

Jenny, wonderful photos! I have thin gloves I use just so that my hands don't freeze and fall off, LOL. You have inspired me to walk in my town and take some photos! Well, if it weren't so cold that is! :D

Jenny - Based on your title, I thought you were shopping for new windows for your house so that you can take full advantage of the Home Renovation Tax Credit which finally passed into law on December 15, 2009 and expires on January 31, 2010.

But no, you were browsing along beautiful downtown Oakville enjoying the Christmas festivities.  Fantastic collage.

If you wanted a lot of snow, you should have driven south into the big storm in the northeast, just like Al and Peggy did a couple of days ago. :)  However, you should get 1-3 cm of snow on Dec 25 and 1 cm on Dec 26 plus some rain on both days, if the weather forecast is correct.

Hi William - I made it with Picasa.  I had two pairs of those little thin cloth gloves on but kept taking them off.  Plus I had my dog so I was moving pretty slowly.  It was a pretty chilly night.

Hi Sara - I'd been thinking of doing it for a week or so but just never got downtown.  My dog needed a walk so I just threw her in the car and headed down.

Hi Gerry - Some people have such a talent for decorating.  I'm sure some of those stores paid big bucks for the displays.

Hi John - that will be another post lol.  I do love old windows and doors and do have quite a few already saved.  Look for an antique window post in the new year.

Hi Debra - It was actually warm everything, except the hands lol.  I had my long underwear and 2 pairs of socks on.

Hi Jim - Yea I figured I'd change up the background with a more seasonal motif.  I'm heading up to Northern Ontario for Christmas for a few days and they have over 2 ft. of snow, so I'm sure I will have some snow photos to share in the new year.

Hi Andrea - well if your photos are anything like the farm photos you took they will be spectacular.  I was thinking maybe I'd buy some of those gloves that have the flaps over the fingers.  The things we do for photos, eh?

Hi Marc - Actually this house had new windows in it when we bought it a year and a half ago.  All we did was add a sliding glass door in the dining room.  I'm glad Al and Peg arrived safely in Florida.  We are heading up to Parry Sound for Christmas so will definitely have a white Christmas.

Tony and Darcy - We some some very exclusive shops and boutiques here in Oakville.  We have 3 menswear stores that have been there for over 30 years.  There is also a furniture store and fur store that have survived downtown for 50 yrs. I think.  Other stores come and go.  Quite high rent and not all stores can cut it.

Thanks Diane - Enjoy the holidays.

Hi Glenda - Thanks but no thanks.  I can't believe how many U.S. states are being hit.  And to think everyone always thinks Canada is in the snow belt.

Hi Jenny... when I lived in NYC I always enjoyed the seasonal decorations in the store windows.  Dallas is just not really a walking city for shopping except for maybe Highland Park Village which goes all out with their decorations.

Hi Mary - Well Christmas has come and gone.  The windows were lovely downtown.  Won't be long til the spring stuff is on the shelves.  Here's hoping.

Hi Graig - Funny you should mention that.  We actually have one of those stores but I forgot all about it since it's not on the main street.  Guess I should have taken a peek in their window, eh?

Hi Kathy - Happy New Year to you and Barrie also.

Hi John - Yes it is frosty right now.  Hope you are enjoying your ocean walks.

Hi Cheron - Happy Holidays to you also.  Wishing you all the best for 2010.

Hi Steve - I can imagine NYC during the holiday season.  I've yet to visit there.  I'm not crazy about crowds lol.

Hi Fred - Wishing you all the best also for 2010

Jenny - I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.  I love walking in the snow, looking at Xmas trees, lights and decorations, and visiting shops decked out for the holidays.  However, the past two Christmas seasons I have been in warm weather countries and definitely missed the snow.
