Holiday Lights at Reston Town Center

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

The popular Reston Town Center is often referred to as the "downtown of Northern Virginia" - it includes retail shops, 30 restaurants, a multiplex theater and the 519-room Hyatt Regency Reston Hotel voted one of the "Best Hotels" in Condé  Nast Traveler's 2009 Reader's Choice Awards.

This award-winning development was designed as a community gathering place and features a 20-foot fountain, low seating and broad steps making it very inviting to pedestrians.  At the Center's hub, the open-air glass Pavilion hosts special events, concerts and festivals throughout the year.  From late October through the second week in March, the Pavilion floor is transformed into an ice-skating rink drawing skaters from all over Northern Virginia.

Just hours before the start of our record snowfall here in Northern Virginia, I stopped at the Center to get some photos of the holiday lights and the Pavilion to add to my stock photos of Reston.  There weren't very many people there, probably because of all the dire weather forecasts - it's usually much more crowded this time of year.  But it made it much easier to get the photos ...

Thanks, Tiffany!  It probably would have looked better with the snow, but 2 feet of the stuff made it difficult to get around :-)

Glenda, looks great!  You should add some new photos with all the snow.  It's amazing out there now.

Craig, I thought about it.  But I assumed by the time I could get there, they would have cleared all the snow - but I'll head over there tomorrow and see how it looks.  Thanks!

WOW - What a difference a few days make.  I can imagine that place all covered in snow now, and looking like a holiday greeting card.

By the way Glenda - What kind of camera are you using?  Those are really crisp clear looking photos!

Thanks, Myrl!  Those shots were taken with a Nikon D60 and a Sigma 10-20 lens ... on a tripod, of course.  I can't trust my hands to hold a camera steady enough for night shots ... LOL!

Hi Glenda - Myrl asked what I was going to ask.  It's hard to get great night shots like that.  But what were you doing out when you knew the big dump was coming???  Guess you knew you might be snowbound for a few days?

Thanks, William - it's my pleasure to share photos of our local attractions.  And it gets me away from my computer for a while!

Jenny, we were hearing dire forecasts - that turned out to be true!  We had 2 feet of snow and were stuck for a couple of days.  We still have a lot of snow on the ground, but at the least the roads have been cleared.

You're welcome, Tony & Darcy!

Thank you Glenda for embellishing your Photo story about Reston and the Town Center. This is wondferful localism photo story and the picture clarity is superb. Night photography as most of us know, is more difficult to capture but you did like a pro.

Thanks, William!  This was actually my first attempt at night photography - I was surprised the photos turned out as well as they did.  Now I can't wait to try some more!
