100 DAYS OF CENTRAL MASS FEATURES INTERSTATE 90 - MASS PIKE
Today we are featuring Interstate 90, also known as the Mass Pike. While doing a little research, I learned something interesting. I-90 is the longest interstate highway in the United States and covers 3,099.07 miles of highway. It goes as far east as Boston, Massachusetts and as far west as Seattle, Washington. It runs parallel with Route 20.
When I-90 was formed, they used a lot of existing roads to help create it including the Massachusetts Turnpike, New York State Thruway, Ohio Turnpike, Indiana Toll Road, Chicago Skyway and Northwest Tollway. From Central Mass to the Eastern part of the state, I-90 is mostly a toll road. Once you get into Western Mass, it is free.
Living in Central Mass, I-90 is the routing method of choice for commuters that are working in Boston and surrounding. If you are thinking of commuting, it would be a time-saver to purchase a Fast Lane toll tag to stick on your windshield. With Fast Lane, you can prepay for your tolls in $20 increments and go through the "fast lane" when entering toll areas. This will help bypass some of the stop and go traffic during your commute.
