It began Friday night and continued all day Saturday. I was doing my best to keep up with the 20+" history-making''  snowfall Baltimore was about to receive. Shoveling the steps a couple of times on Saturday got me a bit ahead. But then awakening Sunday morning to the absolute beauty of almost two feet of this magnificent whiteness was breathtaking. So again, I went out do the steps so I could bring Lee the newspaper. Then I spent almost two hours with the snow blower doing our driveway – I was not going to quit until the whole darn thing was done!

Shoveled Steps

Shoveled steps to get newspaper

Even with all the snow, I had a couple of calls, one from a seller and another from a potential buyer who wanted to see 111 Hamlet Hill Road #1007-Village of Cross Keys-Harper House Condominium.

My seller said, “I guess there is NO activity - who wants to look in this weather?” Positive me said, “I think this is a terrific time, because you can forget the snow if you live in a condo."

After I finished the driveway, the potential buyer called back and I let them know I could be available. They were surprised they could actually see the unit that day in this weather and on such short notice. Amazing how things happen when you answer the phone…and clear a driveway. These buyers had to dig their car out anyway, so visiting the condo was especially enticing.

Patio chairs with snow cushions

Bird feeders in the snow

A doorman held the door as we arrived and the plows and snow blowers were in use clearing sidewalks, driveways and parking lots. If they already lived at Harper House, they would have driven right into the garage, walked a few steps to the elevator and right up to the 10th floor.

Some of you are saying the only way to forget the snow is to move to a warmer climate. That is not an option for everyone and besides, some of us really enjoy the cold and the beauty of our winter season.

Some people have jobs and businesses, others have family that keep them in this area year round. Many people leave to follow the sun - going to Florida, California, or Arizona - but return for personal reasons. These same people may want or need to forget about the snow and live in a condo.

Many condos have underground parking garages or valet parking. All of them have someone to shovel the snow from the sidewalks and parking lots. Your responsibility is just to enjoy the sheer beauty of the winter wonderland, but not deal with the scraping, shoveling, sanding, salting (clay cat litter is a better choice, by the way.)

Here are some of my special properties that you can “almost” forget about the snow…and live in a condo.

The snow is still here, and as beautiful as it is to look at, digging out a car that has been plowed into a snow bank is no fun. Forget the snow…live in a Baltimore condo!

Condos can be great properties in the northern states.... I live in Chicago now.... and I have found that condos are NOT just rental properties ......

Great post, Margaret....

June, So glad to know that the book arrived. Was concerned about the holiday mail rush.  Glad you got your power back. Sure makes us appreciate how much we have.

Alexander, I bet you did some serious shoveling in Syracuse.

Pat,I remember when we went to Hawaii 14 years ago, there was a blizzard in Maryland. Don't forget to have more fun than just watching what you are missing back home. :)

Barb, Hope the right buyers are listening. Look forward to your photos.

Sally, That's why I encourage sellers to put their homes on the market whenever they are ready. Only serious buyers are house shopping at this time. Let's talk later.

This is the second post I have read this week where clearing the driveway and stairs of snow has prompted business. I should get a call soon considering I am going out to fire up the tractor and clear off a bit of snow myself.

Thanks Barbara, It is still very pretty here. Temps have stayed cold enough to prevent quick melting.

Sabrina, Do you think that clearing of the snow prompted the business or the writing about it? Who cares?  Hope  all our  phones start ringing with the right buyers!

Now that's dedication.  I walk past the snow blowers at the home depot and wonder who would use those.  After seeing the pics, now I know.

Margaret,  Your pictures are beautiful.  I grew up in New York in a high rise.  In fact, my parents still live there, so I understand when you say, "Forget the snow....live in a condo."  Great idea.  If you live in a full-service building, you have nothing to worry about.  My daughter lives in New Jersey in a townhouse community and the HOA does the plowing there as well.

Brian, This snow blower use was my first.

Lynn, Thanks for stopping by. I will be over to check out your posts soon.

Elyse, It is a wonderful perk living in condos/HOA's that take care of the shoveling and plowing.

Connie, You are the best.

Margaret, Thanks for the lovely pictures of the snow.  I am sitting in my condo in Naples Florida on Christams day in seventy degree weather  remembering all the snow shoveling when I lived in Toronto and Denver.  If you have to live in the north, it is a no brainer, as far as I am concerned.  Good post as usual.

Norma, Keep enjoying LA.

Our very pretty snow of the past few days has turned into a forecast of fog, wind and rain tonight and tomorrow. Lucky that with temperatures in the 40's, icing will not be a problem. The rains will wash away most of the snow.

Margaret,

Most of Oklahoma had lots of snow too... except my little corner of the world.. McCurtain County and Choctaw county where I am were clear.. sunshine.  Cold but nice.

I keep looking at all of the pretty pictures of snow everywere but we haven't had any.  I'm kinda' enviousl

Judi, Our rain and 50 degree weather yesterday, pretty much wiped out the snow. Temperature has dropped, winds have picked up and we may have more precipitation for New Years.

Careful what you wish for.
