Are you going to finish those peanuts?
What is an airline to do in a situation like this? How would they balance the rights of an individual against the rights of the collective in a situation like this? Did the armrest survive intact?

OMG is this a serious photo? Im sorry but if you are over a certain size you should have to purchase two seats maybe not at full price which the airlines wouldnt like I dont know what the situation is.
I know that Southwest reserves the right to deny boarding or require the purchase of two seats.
There's just nothing that compares with the angst of holiday air travel. We drive now unless it's over 1000 miles
Heather the Realtor - Orlando, Lake Mary First Time Home Buyers, Bank Owned Homes (RE/MAX Central Realty) Yes Heather, it is a real picture. I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment. He does have a right to fly, but the guy beside him also should have rights. There has to be a balance.
Vickie Nagy, Realtor, Pre-Foreclosure Specialist Certified Call 925.407.7987 (Keller Williams Realty in Danville CA) Driving really isn't all that bad an option for short hauls (unless you have kids that like to fight).
Geoff ONeill (John L. Scott Medford) Geoff, that's what came first to mind when I saw that picture.
I think I sat next to him once. That is really sad for both him and his neighbor.
Well I'll bet that the two seats behind him were his seats. He was perching during the conversations.
There are rules, I believe, where he must buy two seats
At least on Southwest it is open seating. Rarely is a flight maximum capacity. Just make him get on first and go right to the back. I would not want to be behind him when he is trying to get off either.
Jane Peters Los Angeles Living, Los Angeles Homes (BRC Realty Group) It is a pretty sad situation, particularly for him though. It would be hard to imagine all he inconveniences he must endure in his life.
Virginia Tatseos (Stage-Show-Sell) Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus, there are rules in place now, but they differ airline by airline. There still is no uniform way of handling this situation.
Ellie McIntire Real Estate in Howard County Maryland (The McIntire Team of Long & Foster) No Ellie, I'm sure he slows the line down. All those fidgety Franks who are already grabbing their overhead baggage before the plane stops would be really impatient,
Looking at that photo, I started thinking how difficult it must be for the poor pilot who is responsible for the weight and balance calculations. LOL
Gary Coles (Venture Realty Group) Hi Gary, I would hope that in this day and age that pilots aren't responsible for those calculations on commercial flights.
Bless his heart! I feel this big after all the pigging-out I did over the holidays.
Ann Allen ~ SRES ASP e-PRO REALTOR® ~ Birmingham Alabama Luxury Homes (Keller Williams Realty) Hi Ann, he certainly is a big fellow. Now that the holidays are over it's back to the gym.
