CHRISTMAS AT ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Sometimes we wonder why the press doesn't take the time to enlighten the public about the Christmas tradition at Arlington National Cemetary

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.

Know the line has held, your job is done.

          Rest easy, sleep well.

Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held..

                     Peace, peace, and farewell...

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy.

Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

Please share this with everyone on your address list. You hear too much about the bad things people do. Everyone should hear about this.

Courtesy of Cindy Jones, a fellow Active Rain member, this link  takes you over to some photos she took this year when she was helping to place the wreaths.

Primo Ed, this is a great Christmas story, unfortunately it will most likely not be mentioned by the Media because it does not fit their negative thinking.

Feliz Natal :) :) :)

Ed, thank you for sharing your photos.

We just got back from Arlington Cemetery in D.C from Thanksgiving. I had never been to Arlington before.

It was the best part of the trip.

Merry Christmas.

Thank you so much for posting this. My grandfather's stone is there and now that I live back near Lake Tahoe I don't get to visit on Arlington on Christmas like when I lived in Bethesda. Merry Christmas.

Ed, I thought I commented earlier but I am getting the dreaded proxy error. I went to college at Geaorge Washington, and have benn to Arlington and it is a moving experience. Watching the changing of the guard, or visiting the grave of John F. Kennedy and the eternal flame really quiets you, and you see the sacrifices made for the country. Merry Christmas to you, have a great 2010, and I hope to meet you in Arizona at CDPE.

Ed, I loved seeing this and didn't know myself.  I think the news only likes to spread the BAD news around...that's all you seem to find.  I'd be more likely to watch it if they showed these wonderful acts of kindness.

Ed,  Thank you, may those that paid the ultimate price so that we may sit warmly by the fires in the winter, worship and speak freely - NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

God Bless the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine.  More American companies should be doing the same.
