I throw away my bottle of $2.97 hair color and make the call - the call I've been wanting to make all year, but can't justify financially. I need a cut and color and I need it done professionally. "Jennifer, it's Linda, yes, Linda Grayson, remember me? Your client of over ten years who you haven't seen in a year? Yeah, Yeah, that's me. Do you take credit cards?" Long hearty laugh - "You still have a credit card? And, it works?" "No, I don't take credit cards, can't afford the merchant fee, but come on in girl, write me a post dated check for the spring and I'll fix you up."
So, I go. What do you think is our topic of conversation? DUH??? REAL ESTATE RECOVERY - What else? There are five people in the salon, and 4 out of 5 were in a short sale or foreclosure situation with their property. Depressing? NO!!!!!!!!!! We're laughing and having a great time. WHY?????? Because we're not depressed anymore! We've adjusted. OMG, we've adjusted - We're not depressed anymore? LIGHTBULB! We may still be depressed, but we've adjusted, made some decisions, decided on a plan of attack, and we're moving forward.
It's a good feeling. After three years of conversation about the bottom, the public has acknowledged the bottom, grieved the bottom, and with the uncanny resolution and fortitude of the American pscyhe, began to move thru it to no longer feeling desparate, but a sense of recovery, not just a REAL ESTATE RECOVERY but an emotional recovery as well. We're all in the same boat. We're all captains of our own rowboats, noone is on the cruise liner. And, we love each other because of that. We're not ashamed to talk about it, it's the new normal.
So, I raise my glass in cheer to all the hairdressers (especially mine) car washers, lawn care people, housekeepers, babysitters, nail salons. I'm a realtor and we're in a REAL ESTATE RECOVERY !!! So, you'll be hearing from me!!!! Your long lost customer, and you're my long lost customer. It's OK, we can help each other. Let's sell that house that you need to get out from under, I can do that. And, we'll all help each other out, we'll ge thru this. We ARE getting thru this! And OMG, we're not embarrassed any more, we're OK. !)
