Colorado Springs Weather, slippery when Wet!
Colorado Springs Weather, Observations, Chuckles and thinking out loud! I had a chance to make it out into our wonderful snow blowing and frigid weather last night for some last minute Christmas shopping, like so many other people did. As I was out driving around I couldn't help but notice how many people had been in an accident. It seems that Colorado Springs Weather has yet again brought the "white stuff" (Don't tell anyone, but that would be snow) and stunded motorists again on how to drive in it. It was as if Mr. Colorado Springs Weather was hiding behind a tree and then jumped out into oncoming traffic, startling all oncoming drivers, causing them all to crash. I had the opportunity to help one of those victims that thought that driving over a curb and onto the grass was more fun than staying between the curbs and on pavement. I gave them a little tow and off they went.
For the past 5 or so years I have taken up a hobby and friendly gesture of going out and helping motorisist who have been unfortunate enough to become stuck or stranded in bad weather, helping them with a tow, taking them home or whatever it takes. Oddly enough, I only go out on this mission in my front wheel drive van, equipped with studded snow tires. I put them on the van in the month of October and then take them off around the end of April or into the month of May. I have never not gone out in a bad storm, nor ever been stuck or run into anything.
For those new comers, make sure you are prepared for Colorado Springs Weather. When it snows, it gets slippery and even more slippery when wet, but that is not the half of it. For the most part. it's not the snow that is going to get you into trouble, it's the ice. If after a snow it gets warm during the day, causing the snow to melt, watch out if it gets cold again at night beause the wet snow will surely turn the roads to ice. Consider what tires tio use during the winter. I prefer studded tires because the studs poke into the ice and give a better gripping surface, but the ride is noisey in good weather, the tires wear out within a couple seasons and it's an extra expense in the budget.
Merry Christmas, Drive Safely and Happy New Years!
