There's a hundred senators here. And I don't know if there's a senator that doesn't have something in this bill that was important to them. And if they don't have something in it important to them, then it doesn't speak well of them. That's what this legislation is all about. (Harry Reid, Dec. 21, 2009, Democratic press conference after cloture vote on health-care bill)

Apparently, Sen. Reid sees the legislative process as an activity through which individual senators vie for taxpayer dollars to obtain results that are beneficial to them. If individual senators don't get something out of specific legislation, then it "doesn't speak well of them."

Terry, many have hope that in 2010 a large number of the gypsies, tramps and thieves will be gone. The first job should be to pass a law to take away their fat retirements and health care once they leave elected office. Term limits next.

I'm not fond of the procedure, however, the people in each state respectively, elect their representatives soley on the basis of looking out for the best interest of their state. Inserting provisions that will benefit the respective states, is, for the most part, the most beneficial way of garnering federal money.

Our government is a group of Representatives and Senators that are only in it for themselves, Their special interest buddies and paying back those that paid to get them there.

This health care mess, the Cash for Clunkers, the many bailouts and more come immediately to mind.
