We all know that backing up our data is important on our computers, but it's equally important on your smartphone. I find I spend as much time working on my Hero (a smartphone that runs the Android operating system from Google) as I do in front of my laptop.
What would happen if you lost all of the info on your phone? Don't find out by having this happen to you. There are many ways to back up your information no matter what type of smartphone you use.
Since I have an Android, I use My Back Up Pro. My phone had a problem and the only solution was to do a hard reset and wipe out all of my data. Since my data is automatically backed up each day, I didn't loose anything and restoring my data was easy.
Tip: An added plus I've found is the ability to access all of my text messages from the online back up of my data. I used to struggle with ways to make a copy of all of the text messages from a transaction to give to my office with all of the info from a closing. Now I just log into My Back Up Pro and all of my text conversations are there, ready for me to copy and give to the office.
iPhone and MobileMe are a great combination because the data is available on my computer, my phone and through the Apple cloud. Apple also offers a remote wipe so if your phone is lost or stolen you can remotely wipe the phone.
That's a great back up system Laura. Sam - thanks for bringing up a very good point. For anyone using a smartphone that isn't an iPhone, check out www.wavesecure.com. This app not only can remotely wipe out your phone, it also has a LoJac type service that can track your missing or stolen phone as well. You can remotely lock your phone and even make your phone scream.
Deb, I will definately check out Mobile Me for my i-Phone. I have been dragging my feet (no time) and need to get it done. I was also not aware of the remote wipe for my phone. Good stuff as always. Happy New Year!
Hi Marcia - I know it's hard to find extra time, but you'll thank yourself for setting up your backup. The good news is you only have to set it up once. Happy New Year!
Yes, that is very good advise. I sync my phone with Outlook. And it works the other way too. I lost all my contact info. on my computer and luckily all the info. was on the phone so that I could restore to the hard drive.
Carol -I like redundant systems because I never want to go through the horror of losing my info, so I back up my contacts and calendar to Outlook but I have far more info on my phone so I also do a full backup which includes my text messages, phone log and apps using My BackUp Pro
