Last week I watched everyone sending out their holiday greetings.
I kept thinking that familiar saying WIIFM (what's in in for me) applied as some greetings I appreciated but many of them seemed perfunctory. For years I've felt the holidays are personal, and getting cards from my insurance agent and such just never felt right, unless I felt our relationship had become personal. That's only happened for one realtor, Nancy Kingston in Exeter NH, although I've done multiple transactions with several other realtors ... and lost count of how many properties bought and sold in NY, CT, CA, FL, MA, NH ... you get the idea.
Wanting to engage in some type of holiday exchange, I asked a question on LinkedIn (closed this weekend) and suggested that we all have the ability to give a gift to others, one that doesn't require money.
I suggested a small gift of time is appropriate for those who've helped us along the way, a gift of recognizing others publicly in one/more of our social media communities.Once I wrote this, I knew exactly how to recognize my virtual team who's helped me this year in pulling together a new business model for the Associatoin of Women Home Owners ... I included them on my holiday greetings. It was late the day I wrote it so I didn't include links to their respective web sites.
If you haven't already seen the AR post that generated the "Real Estate Blog alert above", you simply have to! Russell Ray clearly exhibits the kind of leadership that makes Active Rain a community unlike any other online. Thanks to Ray and all of you, for a great year of growth and the knowledge that you'll still be there supporting me next year!
