Power Outage In Grants Pass, Oregon

Not that the beauty and wild country of Oregon would let one forget, but sometimes when we think of our being so sophisticated, we are reminded of just how close to nature we really are.

Last month I reported on a Power Outage in an area of our city that was caused by a beaver.

Saturday, a squirrel got into a power substation and did enough damage to interrupt power for about 8,000 of us for most of the day.  Thank goodness the Power Outage did not last overnight, because it was quite cold.

Power Outage

It's great to live in a place where the only terrorists we have to worry about are the fuzzy guys!

Come to Oregon!

What do you mean, I wouldn't want to live where something like a squirrel could cause that kind of a outage. That would be terrible as cold as it probably gets there.

Gary - I heard the poor squirrel didn't live to destroy another sub station!

We were affected and you're right - it WAS cold.

Last year we had a transformer blow up in our back yard and it sent sparks flying everywhere including on our house. It was a friendly little squirrel who is now no longer with us.

I wish these poor little guys would quit doing this to themselves.  I'm glad to see that our backyard squirrel wasn't the culprit.

I wish the power company would come up with a way to protect these squirrels from themselves.

It does still amaze me that as techie as the world has gotten one tiny terrorist can cause so much damage. I suppose that is testimony enough that nature wins.
