Renew your Green Commitment in 2010.

It is hard to believe another year is over. We accumulate so much during the year, including memories, experiences and yes ‘clutter’.  I try really hard to avoid purchasing unnecessary items throughout the year, but come December 31st, I find myself asking the question “why did I buy that item, and was it really necessary”.

On New Years Eve, I plan on renewing my green commitment as my New Years Resolution. It is time to go back to basics, by simple reducing, re-using and recycling. Donating unwanted or unused items to charity is a great start; there plenty scattered throughout the Arlington Neighborhoods.  Items that are not suitable for charity will need to be recycled, fortunately there are also plenty of recycling centers in Arlington Va, and through-out Northern Virginia.  Final stage of the plan is to reduce, not making unnecessary purchases. Instead of buying an item for one time use, consider asking friends to borrow the item.

Like everything we need to assess from time to time that we are on the right track, and at the end of each year is the perfect opportunity to check our green commitment. Want more environmentally friendly ideas, check out the Arbour Realty Blog Site.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year.

Hi Adam, I am going through my house clearing out now too. Even as I go through holiday decorations, the ones I didn't use this year are going to be donated. Best wishes in 2010!

Adam great minds think alike.  I just posted about decluttering and am looking for the right place to recycle some old unusable computer equipment now.

I just saw that Sendsations has a postcard series 12 month mailing campaign on going green.  I love the idea because it will create awareness on a larger scale with our clients but it also seems odd that because it is not in an email campaign.

We have made a commitment to get rid of the things that we moved with us 6 years ago. Things that are still in the boxes.

I have used the Free Stuff posting on Craigslist to get rid of unwanted items. You would be amazed at what people will fight over. At our office, we have a used electronics collection week for our clients. They drop off their old stuff and we take a big load to the recyling center. they get rid of their stuff, we get to see them face to face. Everyone wins.

I love the idea of helping your client recycle electronics.  Sounds like a true win-win!
