It's Time for the Annual Polar Bear Swim

By
Real Estate Agent with Brand Name Real Estate

Every year, on January 1st, a group of crazed individuals make a dash down the beach of Sullivan's Island and plunge into the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean.  A ritual better known as the Polar Bear Swim.Polar Bear Swim

This year will mark the 17th annual Polar Bear Swim for Charleston.  Thousands of people rush into the icy water on New Year's Day, for reasons that I will never understand.

The low temperature tonight is suppose to be around 30 degrees, with the high tomorrow only reaching 54 degrees.  But since the weather has been unseasonable warm, I'm sure that the water temperature is around 55 degrees.  So it should be warmer in the water that out of it!  Crazy, huh?

Regardless of the temperature, The Polar Bear Swim is still not an event for me.  If you do go out to Sullivan's Island to make that mad dash into the ocean, I hope that you have a great time, and that you have a very thick towel to bundle up with when you get out!

Sounds like an event in which the higher ups at HUD should participate, as it might shock them into realizing the madness of the new GFE.

Jim and Maria,

Yes, it does sound crazy, but with it being 54 degrees out of the water and 55 degrees in the water, they will not feel a thing.

Winter is just beginning, but I do not blame them.  I am anxious to get to the beach, too.

Jim, Maria,

I do hope that it is for a very good cause.  Kind of crazy just for the fun of it.

I won't even get in the shower until the water has reached the maximum temperature!

These folks are nuts!

But it does make for a really fun spectator sport!

Ever year when I see this on the news, it cracks me up. These are some brave folks but I can honestly say, I will never be in that bunch. It looks like they are all having a good time.
