I don't presume to be an expert on anything to do with health care. However I recently had an experience that exceedingly and abundantly exceeded any of my expectations. Upon moving to Lexington there were only two things were not less expensive here. One was car insurance and the other health insurance.
After seeing our health insurance premiums continue to skyrocket I began to investigate the Veterans Clinic and Hospital here in Lexington. I found several people who were very happy with the VA health benefits. So I reluctantly filed for the benefits and they called me to set up an initial oppointment.
I arrived early on a Friday morning, waited less than a minute and was interviewed by a Nurse Practitioner. She was a no nonsense Nurse and quickly entered all my medical history into her electronic data base. In contrast when I first went to the UK hospital it took hours to get everthing done and there were no electronic records.
I had my blood work completed and my initial appointment finished in less than an hour from the time I drove into the parking lot. By the way the parking lot is free and has never been crowded.
So, Kathy and I are saving over three hundred dollars a month and I couldn't be happier with my my health care.
I have since shared this experience with family in the medical profession and they insist the VA has the best electronic records system available and that private hospitals will not use it even though it is free.
I wonder if so much of our health care problems is because of a basic lack of trust or pride. I guess that shouldn't surprise us since the human condition is tainted by pride.

Paul, there is no problem for me going to the VA hospital. For the most part they are using the same equipment as any other hospital. If nothing else use it for the prescription meds you can't beat those prices anywhere. It is a benefit we earned so use it. Happy Holidays.
