Being an Honest Realtor

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Chervenic Realty

The other day I heard that realtors are crooks. I know that in every profession there are dishonest people, however, in every profession, there are many wonderful professionals. I try and explain to each and every client which things in the transaction are in my control and which things are not. I don't have any control over the mortgage company or the underwriters or the appraisers. I can try and help make the transaction go more smoothly by getting all the information needed that I can provide and by keeping calm and keeping the lines of communication open.

Honesty and Communication are the biggest key to keeping everyone calm and on the same page during a frustrating transaction. With mortgage companies - underwriters being more careful and conservative, we all need to work together to keep deals moving in the right direction. It is important to let my clients know that I don't have all the answers but I will get them. I am knowledgeable, honest and hardworking.

The most important idea I can transmit to my clients is that I am here to help them get the best deal they can get on their home whether buying or selling. I am here to HELP THEM!

Unfortunately Susan, our reputation usually precedes us. I heard another Realtor's spouse make the statment that "Realtors have earned their reputation around here" and it wasn't meant in a good way. It just goes to show you that unless we are given the opportunity to police ourselves and get our boards to understand that accountability is paramount, things will never change. That is why we must focus so hard on personal relationships as we do.  Too bad, huh?

Good points, I know it can be frustrating to be faced with that horrible stereotype once again, but keep your chin up, I think it's getting better!

When someone doubts what you are saying, just smile and reply "trust me, I'm a realtor".  To be brutally fair though, there are some real estate "professionals" who ruin it for the majority of us.

Unfortunately, it only takes a few "bad" realtors to give us all a bad name. My way to combat that is to do an excellent job for my clients and "turn the tide".
