Updating or Building a New Kitchen? Some Tips to Keep in Mind to Keep from Losing your Mind.

Doing a remodel or a new building project can be trying at best. It has been known to bring previously solid relationships to a crashing end. Some tips to keep in mind to ensure a happy ending for both the project and the relationship.

First and foremost, be sure to get as much cabinet storage space as you can. Whether base cabinet or wall cabinet, be sure to build in an adequate amount of storage space. Be sure to place doors correctly so as to not waste wall space that could turn into additional cabinet space. Put simply, you can't enough storage space.

Same goes for counter space; insufficient counter space is as bad as insufficient cabinet storage. A percentage of counter space will become counter storage space with the rest being designated to work area. Essential counter space areas include either side of the sink, next to the range, next to the refrigerator. Take the time to figure out which areas are best for food prep, and cooking.

Some areas that are typically overlooked are too great a distance between the sink, range, and refrigerator. This needs to be sort of sub-area, putting the sink across the room from the refrigerator just isn't going to work. Be aware of setting up a kitchen that directs traffic through the work areas. Traffic moving through the work areas is not only inefficient, it can be very dangerous.

Take your time with this type of project, a well thought out, efficient kitchen design can really change your feelings about your home, it can also greatly affect the resale value, and likeability by perspective buyers. This is one room where it would make sense to bring in a professional.
